3 Bathroom Remodels, 3 Budgets: Part 2
A few weeks ago we did a post called "3 bathroom remodels, 3 budgets" that compared spaces designed with different bottom lines in mind. We got a lot of interest in the post and figured why not do it again? In our second installment, we're comparing a small guest bathroom, a higher-end en-suite, and an over-the top master bath complete with a built-in fireplace. So how much did each cost? Find out, below. 1. Small design, big style. Cost: $40,000-$60,000. The homeowner wanted this space, which was not much larger than a standard powder room, to function as a full bath. Though the small space presented some unique design challenges that needed to be solved for in order to accommodate a full-sized shower stall, the limited square footage also meant that the client's budget would go far. Marble tile floors, a floating glass shower stall, and custom tile work made this tiny bath feel bright and luxurious.
2. Upscale en-suite. Cost: $80,000-$100,000 This next space, a master bathroom in a large suburban home, was a complete gut-renovation that transformed a dated, poorly functioning space into the open, spa-like retreat the homeowner was after. Among the major factors in the cost of the project were the large size of the space, the separate free-standing tub and glass-enclosed shower stall, and the natural marble used for the walls throughout the room.
3. Ultra-high-end master bath. Cost: $150,000-$200,0000 This last project, part of an addition, spared no expense to create the perfect space. Since it was built from scratch expenses were naturally higher, but the immaculate finishes in the space also increased the budget. Among the unique details: the 3-form paneling flanking the tub, an extra-large shower with a built-in bench, a custom linen closet, and the focal point of the room: a double-sided fireplace.
