A Small and Stylish Kitchen Design in Charlestown, Mass.
One of most charming things about Boston architecture can also be one of the most challenging when it comes to design: many of the homes are from the late 1800s and early 1900s (or even earlier), meaning space isn't necessarily laid out or sized according to modern conveniences. Such was the case in a client kitchen design in Charlestown that we recently completed.
As you can tell by the home's exterior, above, the building is a classic Boston brownstone. Our client lived on the top floor of the building, and wanted a kitchen that was cutting edge, yet space was extremely limited, and the footprint was unique. The kitchen was to be a U-shaped space under a dormer. As for the style: Despite the home's facade, its owner wanted a kitchen with a modern look.
At the core of the design for this kitchen was a smart use of space. Organization, function, and storage were factored into every decision. In the end, we opted for Leicht Cabinets due to the sleek look and large variety of built-in storage options. Take a look at the finished design, below.
Here, a contemporary range hood and mosaic-style backsplash give the room a unique focal point.
Both the dishwasher and refrigerator were installed behind custom cabinetry fronts.
Leicht cabinets and drawers offer built-in storage systems to make organization a cinch.
