A Timeless Kitchen Design in Wayland, Mass
We recently finished a timeless kitchen design in suburban Boston that is the epitome of evergreen style. The space exudes the fresh and current feel the homeowner was after for their remodel, but it's also purposely designed to stand the test of time, too, so that the family felt like they were making a sound, and lasting investment. So how did we blend contemporary and classic? Let's take a tour!
If you want a kitchen design that won't feel dated after just a few years, the big word to remember is simplicity. As you can see with this space, there are no elaborate, trendy details or features that the homeowner might tire of in a few years.
For color, we opted for neutral shades of white and gray for all of the surfaces in the kitchen, from countertops to ceilings. For the cabinetry, we chose simple, Shaker-style doors, which are the chameleon of kitchen cabinetry because they go with any style or design.
For the backsplash, we chose a subway tile. To make the popular style feel more lasting, we skipped the standard white porcelain version for a slightly more unique glass tile that's less likely to scream "2017!"
We incorporated the on-trend Navy chairs at the island bar, but those are easy to swap out in a few years should the family want to refresh the space.
Another great way to ensure a lasting design is to purchase high-end appliances. Most manufacturers have stuck to a similar design for their appliances for years, and a quality range and refrigerator will look and functional like a luxury item for a decade or more.
For the floors, we skipped trending espresso or bleached finished for a more natural medium stain. The hardware is on the traditional side, also to ensure timelessness.
Finally, we paid special attention to storage and function, ensuring the space would suit the family's needs for years to come.
