The Top Kitchen Trends of 2017
Each year, the National Kitchen and Bath Association releases their research on the year's biggest kitchen trends. The study is about as scientific as you can get when measuring subjective trends: the NKBA polls its member organizations, made up of kitchen and bath designers, to see what sorts of details, colors, and styles their clients are requesting most. So what are the top kitchen trends of 2017? According to the NKBA study, they are:
-Contemporary design. Transitional design remains the most-popular kitchen design style, but this year, contemporary design beat out transitional for spot number 2. Sleek cabinetry and clean lines are here to stay.
-Shades of gray. A few weeks ago, we talked about how many two-tone white and gray kitchens we've been designing lately, and it turns out, it's not just our clients who love the look. The NKBA called gray cabinets one of the biggest trends in kitchen design.
-Two-tone kitchens. Number three on their list: two-tone kitchens, a la the white and gray designs we mentioned above.
-Metal cabinets. In keeping with the trend toward more contemporary design styles, more and more homeowners are choosing to use nontraditional materials in their kitchen designs. A big one this year: Metal.
-Cabinet flourishes. When it comes to details on kitchen cabinetry, under-cabinet LED lighting is one of the most popular choices homeowners are making. Falling in popularity: crown molding.
-Quartz. Quartz is now the most popular countertop material chosen by homeowners, while granite, the second-most selected material, is on the decline.
-Induction cooktops. Induction cooktops, convection ovens, and microwave drawers are now considered must-haves by many homeowners.
