House Tour: A Modern Kitchen Design in Cambridge, Mass
When you think about Cambridge, Massachusetts, images of brick-lined streets and the historic halls of Harvard University likely jump to mind. And while those picturesque scenes are certainly much of what makes Cambridge such a desirable place to live, the city is also becoming a hotbed for design in the Boston area, particularly when it comes to contemporary and modern styles. We love the chance to turn infuse a historic home or neighborhood with the new and the now, which is exactly what happened for a recent modern kitchen design in the neighborhood of West Cambridge, just a few miles outside the gates of Harvard.
The homeowner was looking for a design that matched their contemporary aesthetic, but also one that maximized the efficiency of the relatively small footprint they had to work with. After a thoughtful design process, a mixture of European cabinetry and appliances were used to create the cutting edge kitchen of the client's dreams. Tour the finished space, below.
The homeowner wanted something that felt open, bright and minimal. To achieve that look, lower cabinets only were installed along two of the walls.
An extra wide window created an airy focal point for the room.
One of the most important facets of this project (and any kitchen design) was function. To allow for ample storage space in a design that sacrificed upper cabinetry in much of the room, every square inch was used.
Drawer space was also maximized thanks to Leicht's well-organized designs.
As a finishing touch, and to add balance the sleek minimalism of the space, an organic, tribal print was added as a backsplash behind the range.
