Vendor Spotlight: Icestone Countertops
One of the things that makes Divine Design & Build different is the unique, exemplary manufacturers and brands we work with. We take care to select every vendor we work with only after ensuring they offer beautiful, quality design that will withstand both your taste and your needs for decades to come. So, we wanted to highlight some of the wonderful manufacturers we work with to provide a little more insight into what makes them so great, and why you might consider their products for your home.
These days, sustainability is a major priority in the home building and design industry, and there are hundreds of eco-friendly options for everything from raw materials, to appliances, to finishes. One of the earliest pioneers--and now one of today's biggest leaders--in the area of sustainable kitchen materials was IceStone Countertops.
Why You'll Love IceStone
Founded in 2003, the company, which is based out of the Brooklyn Navy Yard in Brooklyn, New York, creates beautiful, high-quality countertops and backsplashes from a combination of recycled glass and white cement. Anywhere from 68-75 percent of IceStone materials are made from the glass, which is all 100 percent recycled, and the product is also free of VOCs and resins. IceStone's finished product and manufacturing process have won the company Cradle to Cradle certification, given to businesses that meet a set of stringent environmental standards in material health, material reutilization, renewable energy and carbon management, water stewardship, and social fairness.
Besides the green aspect, IceStone is also a practical, durable and beautiful option for both countertops and backsplashes. It's long-lasting, heat-resistant, and relatively low maintenance, though it does require regular waxing and sealing every few months because of the cement content (which is not unlike the upkeep requires for similarly porous countertop materials like granite and marble).
