Using Green in Kitchen or Bathroom Design
Earlier this month, Pantone announced that Greenery, a grassy shade of, you guessed it, green, would be its 2017 color of the year. While the spaces we primarily design, kitchens and bathrooms, are most often done in neutrals, we have had the pleasure of creating both spaces with touches of 2017's "it" shade. If you think the color is as fresh and invigorating as we do, here are a few ideas for how to work shades of green into a kitchen or bathroom design.
In the Kitchen
Because the kitchen has so many functional elements, many people see it as a spot with limited opportunity for creative design flourishes and stylish touches. But if you rethink some of the traditional elements in the room it turns out there are lots of places to add pops of color and personality. In this mostly neutral suburban kitchen in Weston, Massachusetts, we opted for a colored glass backsplash in a verdant shade of grassy green instead of a more obvious choice like white subway tile or a neutral porcelain mosaic. To finish off the look and tie the hue into the rest of the space, we stationed stools in a similar green tone at the kitchen island.
In the bathroom
This project, from 2009, proves just how enduring shades inspired by nature can be. The design of this spacious, modern master bath took cues from the view beyond the large windows. We incorporated greens throughout the space, starting with the mosaic tile fireplace surround that is the focal point of this luxury retreat. A similar mosaic was used as an accent in the shower. Finally, decorative panels accented mirrors and flanked the tub to continue the color throughout the large room.
